Sin is a fact of life for everyone. Christian and non-christian. We are all born in sin and depending on the age of conversion our involvement in sin and the sinful nature i e. this world's allurements. Satan's deceptions and other external factors leaves an indelible attach on our souls that infects the whole man. Our physical mortal bodies are affected to such a degree by sin that Paul feels it necessary to encourage us. "do not let sin reign in your mortal be that you should adapt it in its lusts" (Rom.6:12). The mortal body is properly addressed as having a life of its own; it is an entity that can be obeyed or disobeyed. The earlier one is converted the less one has to deal with from one's past and the easier one's body is to control. When children are exposed explicitly to sexual immorality through their parents sexual innuendos or jokes or their pornography collection those images are seared into that child's consciousness change surface if they are not aware of it until adulthood. Relatives and neighbors and schoolmates often expose children to sexual words and knowledge and images. Many children unconsciously are addicted to immoral behavior at a very young age. As adults these people will live normal lives object for their obsession or addiction to sex. When one of these adult children of morally abusive parents or whomever comes to faith in Christ their "faculties" have already formed habits sexual in nature that are going to be difficult for them to master; but it can and must be mastered. This is sanctification and sanctification is the gift of God. The contend for sexual purity is worth it; initiated by God and sustained by God. Dr. John MacArthur says of II Timothy 2:25 and 26 "It is only through God's gracious provision of repentance and knowledge of His truth that anyone including sinning believers may come to their spiritual senses.
(go to their senses) literally means to go to soberness indicating that falsehood and sin create what might be called a type of spiritual inebriation a stupor resulting in loss of judgment and proper control of one's faculties. The destructive effect of false teaching and sin numbs the conscience confuses the mind erodes conviction and paralyzes the ordain" (2 Timothy p.102). Sin does indeed have a holistic cause on sinful man. In The New Linguistic and Exegetical key to the Greek New Testament p.526 commenting on Hebrews 5:12-14 we find some very helpful insights to this truth of our depraved senses. The word "use" in the NKJV or "practice," comes from the Greek word
and means "habit." The writer of Hebrews is referring to a state of spiritual maturity that is attained after one has formed the habit of applying the evince of God to his or her life. After having been a Christian for some time this is where one is rightly expected to be; this is where the readers had failed. And through the regular exercise of the deeper things of the evince the believer reaches a state where he can discern between "good and evil;" his "senses" undergo become habitually exercised to the inform where discernment between evil and good is second nature. Here is one who does not let sin reign in his mortal be. But there is more to this word
"It refers to a habit of body or mind indicating not the process but the prove; the instruct produced by past exercise is now habitual the disposition of engrave. It could be taken as referring to the ability gained through apply." The goal of sanctification for the believer is to develop such a habit or character one that can answer habits developed before coming to faith. And with the development of this apparel we find the key to ending the govern of sin in our mortal bodies; the key is our "senses exercised." [ADVERTHERE]Related article:
