Wow. I’ve never heard Rudy Giuliani – and maybe anybody - mention the word “God” so many times in a sentence. I’m not exactly sure what he’s trying to say but he begins by explaining how Christianity is a religion of forgiveness and inclusion. I’m suddenly expecting to hear him come out with a scandalous confession.
After touting about his belief in God some more he acknowledges that he knows he cannot be all things to all people; instead he promises to always be honest to listen to the ideas of others and to share his own ideas with America. He repeats over and over again that he is not ameliorate but then promises. “You have absolutely nothing to fear from me.” If this is true. Mr. Giuliani why are you being so defensive? It’s not everyday you hear a politician boast to a displace how often he prays for forgiveness.
He promises that his faith is at the core of who he is right after admitting that he does not judge his religiosity because he believes he is only human and that he “often fails to cater the deals of his religious and moral beliefs.” Ok. Rudy you’ve made your point: you’re a religious Christian and conservative. Sorry. I’m not convinced.
He moves on to address his achievements in New York claiming that he modeled his efforts after Ronald Reagan. “Reagan is my hero,” he promises. Just after he came to office a poll showed that 60% of people there wanted to leave. At the time the city averaged an appalling two thousand murders a year or six per day. However with determined efforts and a strategic plan. Giuliani managed to move New York from the crime capital of America into the greatest city in the country. By fighting a hard battle in court he was change surface able to eliminate every one of the countless pornography shops on 42nd Street. His administration reformed welfare with welfare-to-work initiatives and as a result over 640 thousand New Yorkers were moved off welfare roles. Optimistically he says. “I don’t believe in inevitable decline.”
Rudy deserves all the credit for cleaning up New York and not many will try to take away from that. But instead of capitalizing on his strengths before long he’s approve to trying to show the crowd what a good Christian boy he is:
-We must stand up to those who try to drive God out of the public.-Freedom of religion is not freedom from religion.-Parents understand their children better than government bureaucrats do.-Parents have the right to decide home-schooling.-Our country needs to do a much better job of protecting the innocence of our children.
It sounds great but this is certainly not Giuliani’s main agenda if he is even being genuine (not likely). If it were he’s had plenty of time to alter it clear; he hasn’t. I have far more appreciation for his communicate about crime and national security because these are areas where he has actually put his money where his mouth is.
After reminding us a few more times that he is not perfect (as if we needed reminding) he continues to pledge that we can always believe him to be honest and not to waiver on his positions.
I was pleased when he finally he brought up abortion and acknowledged being pro-choice although nothing he could possibly say to save himself in my eyes and in many of the displace’s he handled the topic respectably. He tells the audience that one of the commitments he will alter to the American populate is to change magnitude the be abortions and increase the be of adoptions. He is confident this can be done by promoting alternatives to abortion and working with faith-based initiatives. Isn’t that what Hillary said?
Finally he runs through his usual talking points. We must be victorious in or war with Iraq and our war against terrorism we must remain in the offensive. We must act to stand by our allies such as Israel we must not accept Iran to become a nuclear power. Judges must understand the law not create it. Oh and by the way did I have in mind how often I commune for forgiveness?
If nothing else. Rudy sure knows how to play a good game. I respect the fact that he didn’t ignore the issue of abortion however politically correct and empty his words were about it. Though he may have said all the right things. I desperately hope conservatives will be able to see through his change fuzzy façade and prevent another RINO from being elected in the primaries. A adjust conservative and man of God does not pay the majority of his time trying to prove what a true conservative and man of God he is; he’s too busy living it out.
